Regular Courses:
What other areas are covered by professional development?
The Committee is also involved in trying to publicise law librarianship and the Association to those training for librarianship careers, in maintaining contact with other organisations such as CILIP and in other areas relating to training and development.
What other courses and visits are arranged?
This varies from year to year. However, the Committee plans to organise events that will be of interest to as many BIALL members as possible. The Pre-Conference Seminar has been running for several years now and aims to be on a topic of general interest. Recent seminars have covered cataloguing and classification, EU legislation, researching US case law, budgets in an economic downturn, managing conflict and this year in Brighton the theme was “So Near and Yet So Far… The Law in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man”. Recent one or half day courses include dealing with foreign and international law, Pepper v Hart research and treaties, and there have been study weekends on key management skills for information professionals and making a business case.
The Committee is always anxious to receive suggestions for topics which could be of interest to members. Please contact the Committee Chair if there are subjects you would like to be considered for future courses.
How do I find out about these courses?
BIALL mailtalk is used to notify members about forthcoming courses, and details are advertised on the Events calendar, under News on the Professional Development page and on this page.
