BIALL Annual Study Conference Bursary for personal members of BIALL
Personal members of the Association are encouraged to apply for a bursary in order to attend the BIALL Annual Study Conference. A limited number of bursaries to cover the whole, or part of the cost of the conference fee, are available. The bursaries do not include assistance towards travel expenses. Applications will be considered once the Conference Programme and Registration Documents have been advertised.
How to apply: click here for a bursary application form in Word (42kb). Applicants should complete the form indicating:
- Reasons for wishing to attend the conference
- Reasons for applying for a bursary
In addition applicants are asked to indicate whether or not a bursary of 50% would be sufficient to allow attendance at the conference.
The closing date for application is Fri 14 May 2010.
Criteria for applications: Applicants must be full personal members of BIALL. Recipients of bursaries last year may not apply this year. In order for the Committee to make a decision, applicants are expected to submit an application explaining their particular reasons for requesting a bursary in order to attend the conference. On this basis applications are welcome from all sectors and circumstances from within the law library and information profession (including academic, law firm, government, special, solo operatives and freelancers). In making bursary awards some preference may be given by the committee to those who have not attended the BIALL conference previously, to those who are new to the profession and also those who would not otherwise be able to attend due to a lack of funding availble to them.
The Committee will aim to meet shortly after these deadlines and
applicants will be advised soon afterwards about whether, or not, they
have been granted an award.
Awarding of bursaries: In awarding a bursary the Committee may base its decision on a number of factors including:
- the quality of the application
- whether, or not, an applicant has received a BIALL bursary in recent years. Preference may be given to those who have not benefited from a bursary in the past.
- if there is an expectation of future commitment and performance in the law library profession
- proven or potential contribution to and /or participation in the Association's activities
- the ability to be a good ambassador for BIALL, including being prepared to participate in conference sessions and activities
All bursary recipients are expected to write a report that may be published in the BIALL Newsletter, or LIM.
