BEYOND THE PALE

Planning for the Next Information Generation

BIALL 39th Annual Study Conference & Exhibition

12th - 14th June 2008

RDS Dublin

The easy availability of electronic resources has rewritten the rules in relation to information management and legal research. Since the early 1990's the internet has come to dominate the storage of and access to information. In Dublin, we will examine where likely trends will take us over the next 5 to 10 years. What are the implications of future growth in the use of electronic resources and the digitisation of data? Has the current generation of legal information professionals a different perspective on their work than earlier generations ?

These themes will be central to our conference, but there will be plenty of opportunity to learn about and discuss other key issues and innovations in legal information. Our keynote speaker in Dublin will be Richard Susskind, discussing issues raised in his new book The End of Lawyers ?: Rethinking the Nature of Legal Services. We are also very pleased to have Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, a justice of the Supreme Court of Ireland, speaking on Law, Crime and Punishment in Bloomsday Dublin.

The conference will take place at the premises of the Royal Dublin Society located to the south of the City Centre. Dublin is an historic and vibrant city providing great opportunities for social and cultural experiences and is one of the liveliest of European capitals. From her humble beginnings as a Viking trading port to a walled medieval city and then - in a glorious century of expansion - to an elegant Georgian metropolis with wide streets, gracious squares and great houses, neatly bordered by its two canals, whatever way you choose to experience her, Dublin is a city that will capture your heart.
