Information professionals in the recession
7 October 2009
The past 6 months have been a difficult time for many of us, but we would like to focus on some positive aspects. Many information professionals will have had to make changes to the way they or their department work, and we are sure some of these changes will be creative and innovative. We are hoping to reflect on how information professionals have been coping with the economic downturn, and to share hints, tips and success stories to give encouragement to anyone else who is having to cope with similar changes.
Perhaps you have introduced new methods of circulating information to your users? Embraced electronic information above hardcopy - or vice versa? Introduced new training methods to assist your users with researching and accessing information? Or you feel you and your team have really risen to the challenges you have been facing?
We would like to hear from as many of you as possible. We are not looking for lengthy contributions from anyone as we know that everyone is very busy. However, if you can spare 5 minutes to write a brief paragraph outlining how you feel you and your colleagues have successfully or innovatively coped with the challenges thrown your way we would be very grateful. We also welcome lengthier contributions if anyone feels able to, but we are keen to encourage as many comments as possible so even the briefest response would be extremely helpful. Comments can be published anonymously if you wish so.
The PR & Promotions Committee is very keen to write this article as we feel that those librarians who have already been faced with the reality of the economic downturn have much to share with colleagues who might still be concerned or struggling to cope with changes to their situation. If you can spare a few minutes to help out please get in touch either with a contribution (please add whether you are happy to be named) or to discuss this further.
