This is a one year (12 month) fixed term position in the VWV Knowledge team, based in the Bristol. This is an ideal role for someone considering a career in the library and information profession.

The team supports staff based in all offices by delivering the Firm's knowledge sharing strategy.

The Knowledge team comprises seven information professionals. It is important that the postholder has a proactive, user-focused attitude to service delivery and understands the need to work in partnership with members of the team and the Firm for the benefit of our clients.

Members of the Knowledge team share responsibility for all aspects of service delivery, and collaborative working is key to our performance.

 This is a full-time role: 35 hours per week; normal office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Overall Objective

  • To support the Firm in achieving its objectives for service delivery and profitability by the creation and sharing of first-rate legal and commercial knowledge.
  • To contribute to the development, implementation and promotion of the Firm's knowledge sharing strategy.


Knowledge Centre Collection Management

Support the Knowledge Assistant in the maintenance of the Knowledge Centre collection of online and printed resources, including:

  • check, catalogue and process additions to the collection
  • log, copy and file invoices; resolve simple queries and obtain authorisation
  • chase overdue loans
  • open, log and process post; claim missing issues
  • arrange for the circulation or display of periodicals
  • organise the updating of loose-leaf works
  • archive Knowledge Centre items
  • participate in the BIALL duplicates exchange scheme
  • keep the Knowledge Centre tidy; shelve books and journals
  • undertake inter-library loans

Services to Staff

  • Organise training in the use of electronic resources
  • Assist staff in the exploitation of Knowledge Centre resources
  • Participate in Knowledge Centre inductions
  • Update journal circulation and current awareness distribution lists
  • Organise the scanning and circulation of current awareness material (e.g. Property law journal)
  • Support the Knowledge Assistant in managing professional membership subscriptions including maintaining records and ensuring prompt payment of invoices

Provision of Knowledge Sharing Resources

  • Contributing to the maintenance of knowledge sharing intranet sites
  • Contribute to the updating and maintenance of in-house databases (Ferret, Staff Directory, Who Knows How, Tenders database, Experts and Barristers, Foreign lawyers etc)

Knowledge Centre Administration

  • Provide administrative assistance to the Knowledge team by updating recurring tasks list, taking minutes of Knowledge team meetings and monitoring new matters on the Intranet homepage to support matter management
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the enquiries database and Knowledge manual
  • Develop and document Knowledge Centre administrative procedures
  • Other duties assigned by the Head of Knowledge and Information Management from time to time
