This is a new role within the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS), and the primary responsibility for the post holder will be supporting the Sheriff Courts Librarian in the establishment and development of the new Sheriff Courts library service. The Sheriff Courts library service will work alongside the existing Supreme Courts library service, and together they will constitute the SCTS Library Service.
The main function of this role will be supporting the Sheriff Courts Librarian to deliver the phased creation and management of a professional information and legal research service which will meet the needs of the users of the Sheriff Court.
Once established, the role holder will be expected to be a core part of a service which will deal with a variety of enquiries received by phone, email, and in person. Other core responsibilities will involve assisting the Librarian with stock selection and collection development, cataloguing of materials, training users on electronic resources, and continually working to improve the library services.
As the Sheriff Courts have stock in multiple locations around Scotland some occasional travel may be required to these sites.
The post holder will be supported if they wish to work towards a recognised professional qualification by undertaking the process of Chartership with CILIP, the information professional’s professional body.
