JOB SUMMARY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Librarian to support our Head of Knowledge Management in a newly created role. The key purpose of this new role is to meet the firm's growing need for research and information support and to provide effective management and exploitation of the firm's legal hardcopy and online resources. The role requires the training and abilities of a librarian with a good grounding in legal and commercial research.

Within the firm there is a growing need to provide both ad-hoc and continuous research support on clients and sectors. This will take the form of ad-hoc research as well as contributing the intranet pages and forums supporting the firm's practice areas, industry sector and client groups.

Although there is no central library (with hardcopy materials held in small collections with groups and individuals) the firm's hardcopy and online resources require effective management. The role will be responsible for the ordering and cataloguing of new items and the management of the existing materials.

The role will also be expected to develop the increased use of the current services through training and awareness. As well as expanding the front line services, some library management processes require streamlining and simplification and the post holder will take the initiative here too.

PRINCIPAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research

  • Respond to ad-hoc research requests, both legal and client/sector related
  • Provide research and information advice and support to Business Development led client and sector initiatives.

Sector and Key Client Support

  • Manage, develop and maintain the knowledge areas of the sector and key client intranet pages working with Business Development.
  • Provide input into legal practice area knowledge pages on the intranet

Library Management

  • Provide introductory training sessions to new joiners and trainees on a systematic basis, including arranging for external trainers to provide online training sessions as appropriate.
  • Develop and enhance the provision of current awareness services.
  • Order and process new materials; circulate new journals items and ensure all process are as streamlined and effective as possible.
  • Maintain the small physical collections of materials (N.B looseleafing is provided by a contractor)
  • Ensure the library management system records are kept consistent, accurate and up to date. This includes bibliographic records, orders, subscriptions and authority records.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory

  • Professional Information or Library qualification at degree level or above
  • Experience of working in a law firm or professional services firm
  • Experience of providing research using a range of legal and commercial online information services
  • Desirable:
  • Experience of working with library systems (the firm uses Bailey Solutions 'Knowall' but experience of any other major system would be desirable)
  • Previous experience of end-user training
