Department and background

The firm's award winning Knowledge & Information Services (K&IS) team currently consists of six members of staff who operate a busy and dynamic enquiry/research service supporting all of Fieldfisher's offices. In addition to the enquiry service the team produce regular current awareness and business intelligence reports in accordance with the needs of the lawyers and their clients. The K&IS team also offers training in legal research and use of online databases to staff.

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated Knowledge & Information Services Trainee with strong customer service skills to join the team.

This role is aimed at graduates who wish to gain relevant experience prior to studying for a postgraduate course in Library and Information Services.

This role is aimed at giving the individual the opportunity of working for an international law firm, whilst providing administrative support to the information services team to ensure the smooth running of this service.

Responsibilities

Journal Administration

  • Maintain circulations lists on Library Management system.
  • Circulate subscribed journals.
  • Assist the Information Officer to liaise with subscription agent.

Current Awareness

  • Produce tailored daily and weekly news bulletins

Collection Management

  • Maintenance of all satellite libraries.

Looseleafs

  • File and update looseleafs.

Cataloguing

  • Cataloguing all titles purchased.
  • Assist the Information Officer processing invoices.

Areas this role may expand into:

  • Legal & business research
  • Assisting with training

Key skills and experience

  • Must be educated to degree level and plan to study a postgraduate course in Library and Information Services.
  • Good IT skills e.g. Word, Excel
  • Excellent relationship building skills with ability to deal with staff at all levels.
  • Good prioritisation, organisation and administrative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Attention to detail. Accuracy is essential, especially when carrying out routine tasks
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team; a willingness to support the overall objectives of the team and enhance its reputation within the firm.
  • Ability to work autonomously and use own initiative, yet ask for assistance when unsure.
  • Flexible, customer-focussed approach.
