No5 Chambers' is the largest set of barristers chambers in the country with over 200 barristers working in 7 core practice areas.  The principal office is in Central Birmingham with further offices in London and Bristol.  We are looking for an experienced legal librarian, for a job-share post of  Chambers' Librarian

REPORTS TO:

Chambers Board member for library (Library Manager)                                                                            

Practice Director

ACTIVITIES INVOLVED:

  • Manage the day to day running of the library including:
  • Book purchases, cataloguing and indexing
  • Maintenance of library management system
  • Provide a current awareness service to the Practice Director and other members of staff as necessary
  • Maintain items of legal news posted to notice boards
  • Manage Library Assistant

ENQUIRY WORK

  • Assist Counsel and other library users in locating information as needed, both from Chambers' library resources and from external organisations such as the Inns of Court Libraries
  • Answer telephone queries from solicitors

TRAINING

Provide training on library resources, hard copy and electronic, to members of staff and members of chambers when required

OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Prepare reports for the Library Manager and the Management Committee when requested
  • Maintain and manage the annual library budget including the monitoring of committed annual expenditure on subscriptions and standing orders
  • Liaise with other members of staff to co-operate in the efficient running of Chambers
  • Attend meetings of the local Law Librarians' Group and Bar Librarians Group
